Frye Island is a community of approx. 450 homes, open May through October. It lies 1/4 mile off Raymond
Cape in the center of Big Sebago, Maine's second-largest lake. As on many islands, the atmosphere is
casual and low-key.
This green jewel in the center of blue Sebago Lake occupies a special place in our hearts!
About 2.5 miles long by 1.5 miles wide, Frye Island is accessed by the Leisure Lady and the Ellie
Corliss,
twin 65' single-deck car ferries owned and operated by the town. Each ferry holds 9 - 11 cars. The trip
takes about 5 minutes, plus a few minutes for loading and unloading. Service is every half hour from
early
morning to late evening in July and August, reduced somewhat in the off season. Walk-on passengers are
permitted, but there is no passenger parking at the ferry landings.
The ferry landing to Frye Island is located at the end of Raymond Cape, about 5 miles off Route 302. Get
on
line when you arrive, and the Ferry Crew will direct you to your place on board. Round-trip for one
vehicle
is $35 at the landing. $25 tickets can be purchased (minimum of 5) at the town office or from Krainin
Real
Estate, and property owners' tickets are $15. Cars with boat trailers require 2 tickets.
As the ferry nears the Island, you will see the visitors' boat dock at the Frye's Leap Cafe.
Frye's Leap Cafe. Lunches and Sunday brunch are served all summer on the patio by the lake. Take out is
available.
Next to the Cafe is the Frye Island General Store, offering pizza and sandwiches and a variety of
packaged
groceries, beer, wine, ice cream, newspapers and sundries. Above the store is the Frye Island Town
Office.
Frye Island's challenging, par-36 9-hole golf course was designed by Geoffrey Cornish. It is well kept
and rarely crowded.
Play 9 holes or 18, and enjoy your game in beautiful woodland surroundings. Carts are available.
Moose can play through!
Relax at the pro shop with a beverage and a snack. The Island's golf membership is active and congenial,
and several theme tournaments are held over the summer.
Meetings and events are held at the Community Center throughout the season.
There are many other kinds of recreation available: 2 sets of double tennis courts...
Swimming pool at Lancaster Loop.
At the south end of the Island, 1200' Long Beach offers excellent waterskiing.
There is a marina behind Long Beach, and finger slips are available for rent with cottages. There are
also tie-ups in the canal area on the west side of the island. Gasoline and boat rentals are available
at
marinas in Raymond, Windham and South Casco.
All the town beaches are available to everyone staying on Frye Island. Mostly sandy, they vary in size
from intimate to expansive.
West-side beaches offer the magnificent view across Lake Sebago to the distant mountains, including
Mount
Washington...
and sunsets.
Frye's Leap is not on Frye Island itself, but on the mainland facing the east side of the Island, within
the grounds of Camp Wawenock on Raymond Cape. East-side beaches face Raymond Cape and the sunrise, and
enjoy sunshine until 1-2 pm.
Both waterfront and inland rentals are available. All cottages are fully equipped; furnishings vary with
the tastes of the owners. Most are sized for groups of 4-6, a few hold 8 or more. Groups of families
vacationing together can sometimes get cottages near each other. A few owners accept pets; your pet
must be leashed or under your direct control at all times. Most cottages have gas grills, washers,
dryers,
phones and tv's, and some have cable and/or internet.
